Downy Woodpecker

Here’s the Downy Woodpecker, note the shorter and sharper beak.
And they are slightly smaller in body size than the Hairy Woodpecker (posted below).

  1. I think that Downys are the sweetest of the woodpeckers. They seem almost friendly at times when they come to the feeder. I don’t see the Hairy as often, but can tell the bigger beak when they do come.

    • I agree. They seem by far the most tolerant of me photographing them. The others spook much easier. The Hairy is starting to come a little more regularly now, and letting me get an occasional shot of him without flying away when he sees me. But I totally agree about the Downys.
