Colorful Fungi

I don’t know what it is about this one particular stump, but it seems to host a wide variety of fungi.  And until this past year I never paid so much attention to just how much that same fungi changes its appearance over months of time.  This particular fungi growth was off-white for a very long time.  I noticed today it is quite colorful.

and a closer view:

I probably could have gotten some lovely macro shots if I could only get closer to it.  But where it is located I can only get within approximately 8 feet of it.  If my legs will improve a little, perhaps I can get some better photos then.  This is the best I can do for now.  Still I thought it is quite lovely to look at.  It’s amazing what you find to pay attention to in December, if you just take the time to look.

    • I don’t either. I saw a book once in a bookstore that was all about the mushrooms and various fungi of West Virginia (believe it or not – LOL) and I thought it would be perfect since it was just for this area. But I picked it up and there wasn’t a single picture in the entire thing! Not even a drawing! I thought, well that won’t do me any good.
